Biography

Luis Legaspi is a native of Sacramento who graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Textiles and Clothing, with an emphasis in Marketing. His career was shaped by three different study abroad experiences in Australia, India, and Italy. Since then he has been promoting access to higher education and international education to all populations. Luis is actively engaged with the international education professional community through presentations and participating in committees relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Luis is interested in systemic change in the field of international education and how to make the field more inclusive for broad student populations and for professionals in the field. Luis currently serves as the Chair of the UC San Diego Staff Association Executive Board (SAEB). In this role, he aspires to represent, support, and advance the relationship between the students, faculty, and administration with the staff. He has have served on the SAEB for the past three years, two of them as the Chair of the LGBT Staff and Faculty Association (LGBT SFA). As the LGBT SFA Chair, he collaborated with colleagues to develop programs and opportunities for community-building and networking while representing the LGBT SFA in various committees and meetings. My goal in serving on the board is to support my fellow board members and the staff to have more affirming, supportive, and inclusive work experience to enhance the dynamic environment that is UC San Diego and the University of California. Luis enjoys biking, swimming, running, practicing yoga, being a fitness instructor for UC San Diego Recreation, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Luis is actively involved with the LGBT and Chicanx/Latinx community on campus and in the community.
