Biography

Brian Light is the Chief Operations Manager for the Social Sciences Division Libraries at UC Berkeley. Brian has 27 years of service in the UC Berkeley Libraries, starting in an entry level position and working his way up to managing multiple libraries.
Brian moved to the Bay Area after graduating from The Ohio State University, where he was a student employee in the main university library. Brian later achieved a Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from San Jose State University. He enjoys helping our students, staff, faculty, and community patrons find the information they are looking for.
Specific projects that Brian has worked on in his department and on his campus include creating Equity and Inclusion committee’s for the Staff Assembly and for the Library organization. As a CUCSA delegate, Brian advocated for staff access to the Food Pantries on the UC Campuses and helped elevate the conversation about food insecurity among staff on our campuses.
When not at work, Brian likes to spend time with his family (wife, teenage daughter, 1 dog and 2 bunnies) and is an avid basketball fan and video gamer.
