Biography
Jasmyn is a Staff Data Scientist in the Genomics Division at the DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI) of Berkeley Lab. Soon after graduating from UC Davis, she joined the lab in 2004 at JGI’s inception as a national user facility. There, she played a key role in the Community Science Program by working on sequencing quality control of the first draft genomes. Jasmyn joined JGI’s DEI working group in 2018, committed to fostering a diverse and equitable workplace. These values resonated deeply after becoming a parent, leading her to champion support for pregnant and nursing mothers and raise awareness of UC benefits that support families. She is excited to be a steward for the larger UC workplace and contribute to policy that supports UC staff’s wellbeing. Outside of work, Jasmyn likes exploring nature, traveling, discovering new music, being funny, and spending time with her family, including her four young children.
