Biography

Robert Romero joined UC Merced in 2020 and serves as a Senior Systems Administrator in the Office of Information Technology’s Cyber Infrastructure and Research Technologies team, where he oversees high-performance computing clusters and computational research services that support both research innovation and campus operations. A U.S. Navy veteran with more than a decade of IT management experience, including service as IT Manager at NBCUniversal Media, he has been instrumental in advancing campus computing capabilities. Now in his third year on the UC Merced Staff Assembly, Robert served as Finance Officer-Elect (2023-24), Finance Officer (2024-25), and currently serves as Vice President and First Year Delegate (2025-26). He holds associate degrees in Business Administration and Management Information Systems, a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, and is pursuing a master’s in Engineering Management at The Ohio State University, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and community service.
